October 31st, 2024 – In a major advancement for expanding educational opportunities, JIU has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with James First Course (JF Course), an English language training institution based in Sumba, East Timor. This partnership aims to provide essential support for students in Sumba, facilitating their transition into higher education, particularly at JIU, where all classes are conducted in English from the first semester.
The MOU was signed between JIU and JF Course, represented by the University Rector Dr. Agus Hartadi, S.E., M.A., and Mr. Paul Oh from the Foundation.
The MOA, focused on student admissions and marketing, was signed between JF Course and JIU’s Admissions & Marketing Affairs, represented by the department’s Manager, Mr. Samuel Setiawan.
Currently, the JF Course serves around 200 students with a team of 40 dedicated teaching staff, equipping young people in Sumba with the English skills they need to succeed in an academic setting. The collaboration between JIU and JF Course began earlier this year when University Chancellor Mr. Peter K. Jeong, Ph.D., and Ms. Gloria P. Waang S.E., M.B.A., visited the JF Course office. Their visit initiated a connection that has already led to some JF Course students applying and being accepted into JIU.
During the signing ceremony, representatives from both institutions expressed their commitment to expanding access to quality education. JIU is excited to support JF Course students by offering scholarships to continue their education at JIU, ensuring young learners in Sumba have the opportunity to advance their studies.
Looking ahead, JIU and JF Course will continue to collaborate on numerous initiatives, including scholarship programs and joint educational projects, to foster academic excellence and support the aspirations of students in Sumba. Both institutions are committed to making a positive impact on the community and shaping the future for young learners.
