Jakarta, March 6, 2025 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, students and staff from JIU had the privilege of participating in the Speed-Mentoring Roundtables hosted by the Embassy of Canada for Indonesia & Timor-Leste. The event provided a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on gender equality, leadership, and empowerment.

The session opened with inspiring remarks from H.E. Jess Dutton, Ambassador of Canada to Indonesia & Timor-Leste, and H.E. Vicky Singmin, Ambassador of Canada to ASEAN. Their words emphasized the importance of fostering inclusivity, promoting democracy, and expanding economic opportunities for women.

Empowering Conversations with Female Leaders

During the mentoring roundtables, students and young professionals interacted with influential female leaders from various fields. These dynamic discussions focused on breaking barriers, overcoming challenges, and shaping a more equitable future.

Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, gain insights, and learn firsthand from women leading change in their respective industries. From addressing workplace biases to championing leadership roles, the event inspired attendees and reinforced their commitment to gender equality.

A Call to Action for a More Inclusive Future

The event served as a powerful reminder of the progress made in advancing women’s rights, while also highlighting the work that still lies ahead. Through dialogue and mentorship, JIU students reaffirmed their role in building a society where every woman and girl can thrive.

As discussions concluded, one message stood out: Empowering women is not just a celebration—it’s a movement toward a more just and inclusive world.
