Daejeon, South Korea – A group of students and faculty members from Jakarta International University (JIU) embarked on a meaningful academic and cultural program hosted by Hannam University, from July 29 to August 5, 2025. The program offered not only new knowledge in business, technology, and education but also an immersive introduction to Korean culture.

The journey began with the group’s arrival at Incheon International Airport before heading to Daejeon. A warm welcome awaited them at Hannam University, where the faculty and staff outlined the week’s agenda.

The academic sessions featured Prof. Kee-Soon Yoo, Ph.D., on Globalization and Global Business and Mr. Dimaz Ramananda, S.E., M.Ak.., on Business Environment and Opportunities in Indonesia. After lunch, Ms. Shirley Wijaya, S.E., M.Ak, discussed Waste Management in Indonesia, followed by JIU students presenting their Campus Waste Problem project using Design Thinking. They later collaborated with Hannam University and Songchon Senior High School students to exchange cultural and business ideas.

The following days brought a rich variety of learning experiences. Students explored 3D printing technology at Hannam’s laboratory, practiced density measurement with advanced tools, and toured the Campus Innovation Park. On Thursday, July 31, the group visited Fox Education, a start-up reselling school equipment sourced internationally, where they discovered the perseverance and strategy required in building a business. In the afternoon, the program continued at the National Science Museum and Planetarium, where discussions touched on technology’s role in addressing poverty and achieving economic balance in Indonesia.

Beyond classrooms and labs, the program expanded into cultural and recreational activities. The visit to Dreamy School in Cheonan revealed a student-centered learning approach that encourages creativity and self-driven study. The Samsung Innovation Museum showcased the evolution of technology, while Gangdanggol Valley on Saturday, August 2, offered a refreshing break in nature, strengthening friendships among participants.

On Sunday, August 3, the group joined a church service in Seoul, followed by a cultural exploration of the capital. They wore traditional hanbok at Gyeongbokgung Palace, admired the futuristic Dongdaemun Design Plaza, and enjoyed interactive spaces at Hikr Ground.

The learning journey continued even after the official program ended. On Monday, August 4, the group visited Cheonan Museum, where Prof. Yoo guided them through Korea’s traditional houses and explained how people in the past preserved food and endured wartime conditions. They also admired Korea’s national flower, the Mugunghwa. Later that day, students explored Shinsegae Department Store, toured Dankook University, and wrapped up at Dreamy School’s library with presentations reflecting on their week in Korea—sharing what they had learned, experienced, and cherished.

Finally, on Tuesday, August 5, the delegation departed for Indonesia, bringing home not just academic insights but also valuable cultural experiences and lifelong memories.

Through this program, JIU students gained firsthand exposure to Korea’s innovation, education, and traditions, while building cross-cultural friendships that extended beyond the classroom.
