Spill: Tell Us Your Story” Art Exhibition by VCD JIU 2025 Showcases Creativity and Inspires Through Dialogue

May 14–16, 2025 | Jakarta International University

The Visual Communication Design (VCD) program at Jakarta International University (JIU) once again held its annual art exhibition, this year themed “Spill: Tell Us Your Story”, from May 14 to 16, 2025. The three-day event served as a platform for VCD students to exhibit their creative works as part of their academic projects, while also opening space for dialogue, inspiration, and collaboration within the art and design community.

The event series kicked off on Wednesday, May 14, with an opening ceremony at 10:00 AM. Warm welcome speeches were delivered by JIU’s Rector, Dr. Agus Hartadi,  S.E., M.A. followed by Mr. Wang Choongeun, and the Chairperson of the exhibition committee, Lina Kurniawati Gea, who is also a VCD student. The event was officially opened with a symbolic act of painting on a blank canvas—an expressive gesture to mark the beginning of three days filled with creativity.

On the second day, Thursday, May 15, the exhibition became even more lively with the announcement of winners from the student competition held prior to the event. The day continued with a seminar titled Menceritakan Rasa Lewat Lensa, featuring Arvella Nathania—a renowned food and product photographer and the founder of Cocotier Creative.

In the session, Arvella shared valuable insights into the world of food photography, discussing lighting techniques, visual composition, and strategies for brand storytelling through product imagery. The seminar drew enthusiastic participation from the audience, who engaged in dynamic discussions and Q&A sessions. More than just technical skills, the seminar highlighted how food photography can evolve from a hobby into a promising and rewarding career path.

A significant milestone of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JIU and Cocotier Creative, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership. This collaboration is expected to open doors for internships, mentorships, and real-world project opportunities for students.

The third and final day, Friday, May 16, continued with the exhibition remaining open to the public. Visitors were treated to a wide range of student artworks, from deeply personal expressions and social critiques to bold visual explorations.

“Spill: Tell Us Your Story” stands as a testament to the ever-growing creativity and professionalism of VCD JIU students. This event not only celebrates artistic achievement but also nurtures a spirit of innovation and collaboration among the next generation of creative minds.
