Preparing for a career is an important part of university life. Beyond completing their studies, students also need to think about their interests, strengths, and the kind of work they want to pursue after graduation. With this in mind, Jakarta International University (JIU) held the POEM Career Camp 2026 from July 6 to 10, 2026.
The five-day program highlighted the importance of career preparation and encouraged students to start thinking about their professional goals before finishing university.
Getting Ready for Life After University
Graduation marks the end of university life, but it also brings new decisions. Students must consider which career paths suit them, what skills they need to develop, and how they can apply what they have learned in class to the workplace.
Career preparation is not limited to finding a job. It also involves understanding personal strengths, exploring different opportunities, and being open to learning new things. These steps can help students make more informed decisions as they plan their future.
Developing Skills for the Future
Knowledge gained in the classroom provides a foundation for students’ future careers. However, professional life also requires communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt when situations change.
As technology and workplace expectations continue to develop, students need to be willing to learn and improve their skills. Building these habits during university can help them approach future challenges with greater confidence.
The POEM Career Camp 2026 placed career readiness within the broader student experience at JIU. It highlighted the value of preparing for professional responsibilities while students are still pursuing their degrees.
Taking the Next Step
At Jakarta International University, student development goes beyond academic achievement. Preparing for life after graduation is also an important part of the university experience, helping students consider how their education relates to their future goals.
The POEM Career Camp 2026 served as a reminder that career planning takes time. Students do not need to have every part of their future figured out while they are still at university, but taking time to explore their interests and develop useful skills can help them prepare for what comes next.
Through initiatives that encourage career awareness and personal growth, JIU continues to support students as they work toward their professional aspirations and prepare for opportunities beyond campus.
