Learning English is not just about memorizing vocabulary or understanding grammar. It also takes practice, confidence, and the willingness to communicate with others. From July 6 to July 31, 2026, English Camp at Jakarta International University (JIU) gave students a month-long opportunity to improve their English while learning together, building friendships, and growing in faith.
Throughout the program, students took part in English lessons and interactive activities that encouraged them to use the language in different situations. They also had opportunities to communicate with guest teachers from Australia, Singapore, and JIU. Through these interactions, students could practice expressing their thoughts, listening to others, and communicating in English beyond the classroom.
For many language learners, speaking confidently can be one of the biggest challenges. English Camp provided opportunities for students to become more comfortable using English through practice and interaction. They were encouraged to develop their reading and communication skills and apply what they learned in everyday conversations. The experience also allowed them to learn from different teaching approaches and perspectives.
Growing Through Learning and Interaction
One important part of learning a language is having opportunities to use it. Through the lessons and activities, students could put their knowledge into practice rather than focus only on theory. Interacting with teachers from different backgrounds also gave them a chance to experience communication in a broader setting.
The month-long program offered students time to continue practicing and developing their abilities. As they learned new expressions and improved their understanding of English, they were also encouraged to become more confident in communicating with others. These skills can support their future academic activities and help prepare them for situations where English is needed.
Growing in Faith
Alongside language learning, English Camp also placed importance on spiritual growth. Daily devotions and Bible reading gave students time to reflect on God’s Word and consider how biblical teachings could guide their daily lives.
These sessions provided a different kind of learning experience, allowing students to pause from their academic activities and focus on their relationship with God. Through Bible reading and devotion, they were encouraged to deepen their faith and reflect on Christian values that can shape their attitudes, decisions, and relationships with others.
By including spiritual activities in the program, English Camp created space for students to grow in more than one area of their lives. Academic development and spiritual formation became part of the same learning journey.
More Than a Language Program
English Camp 2026 brought together language learning, personal development, and faith in one program. Students had opportunities to strengthen their English, interact with teachers from different backgrounds, and share experiences with fellow participants.
The experience reflects JIU’s commitment to supporting students’ growth both inside and outside the classroom. While improving English proficiency was an important goal, the program also encouraged students to develop confidence, build meaningful connections, and continue growing spiritually.
As the camp came to an end, students could carry the knowledge and experiences they gained into their everyday lives. The lessons from English Camp extend beyond language skills, reminding students that learning is an ongoing process shaped by practice, relationships, and a willingness to grow.
