JIU Expands Academic Outreach Through Medan & Pekanbaru Visit

October 22–29, 2025 – Jakarta International University (JIU) conducted a week-long outreach trip to Medan and Pekanbaru from October 22 to 29, 2025. The initiative aimed to introduce JIU’s academic programs, provide detailed information about the university’s admission procedures, and build stronger connections with schools and communities in both cities. The delegation consisted of Pak Leonardo (Marketing Staff) and Pak Wang Choongeun, Vice Chairman of FDI.

Medan: Engaging Students Across Multiple Schools

The visit began in Medan with a presentation at SMA Methodist Anthiokia in Pancur Batu. Welcomed by Ms. Riana, the JIU team presented to approximately 200 students from grades 10–12. Students actively participated throughout the session, with several confidently introducing themselves in foreign languages—showing strong motivation and interest in global learning.

Later that day, the team continued to SMA Methodist 8 Medan, where they were welcomed by Principal Mr. Haron. The presentation took place in the church hall with grade 12 students. While some students were initially shy about using foreign languages, their confidence grew as the session progressed, demonstrating their eagerness to learn and explore new academic pathways.

On the next day, the team visited SMA Anugerah Harapan Bangsa in Binjai. Principal Ms. Suherty opened the session for grade 12 students. The school is known for its multilingual environment, with many students proficient in Mandarin and English. The diversity of the classroom enriched the discussion and created an engaging atmosphere throughout the visit.

Pekanbaru: Expanding Connections with Schools and Churches

After completing activities in Medan, the team traveled more than 12 hours to Pekanbaru and immediately continued their engagements. They first participated in a Saturday youth service, followed by a Sunday presentation at HKBP Garuda Church, attended by over 30 young people from various educational backgrounds.

On Sunday, October 26, the team also delivered a session at HKBP Fajar Labuhan Baru Church. Parents in attendance displayed strong interest in learning more about JIU and requested informational materials to share with others in their community. On Monday, the JIU delegation visited SMA El Shaddai, led by Korean missionaries Mr Daud and Ms Sarah. Parents were also invited to join this session. Led by Pak Wang, the presentation concluded with a group photo, marking a positive and collaborative engagement.

The final visit was held at SMA Kalam Kudus Pekanbaru, attended by more than 250 students from grades 10–12. The team was impressed by the students’ strong English skills and highlighted that one of the school’s alumni is currently studying at JIU.

The trip to Medan and Pekanbaru was completed successfully, strengthening JIU’s network of educational partners and introducing more students and parents to the university’s programs and admission process. The series of visits provided valuable connections, meaningful engagement, and broadened awareness of the opportunities available at Jakarta International University.
